OUR STORY

Access Centre Uganda was born out of a desire to restore hope and opportunity in a region that had endured decades of conflict, underdevelopment, and social disruption. The idea was simple but powerful: to create access—access to education, to health services, to livelihoods, to justice, to peace, and to the environment.

From the early days of informal youth meetings under mango trees, we have grown into a respected grassroots organization running multiple impactful programs across the district. We have remained guided by our founding belief that when communities have access to the right tools, skills, and knowledge, they can overcome even the toughest challenges.

Our Vision

A peaceful, self-reliant, and thriving society where every individual, especially the vulnerable, has access to opportunities and lives with dignity.

Our Mission

To empower communities through inclusive and sustainable programs that advance education, health, peace, environmental conservation, and livelihoods.

Our Core Values

  • Equity & Inclusion: We focus on the marginalized and ensure no one is left behind.

  • Community Ownership: We believe local people are the drivers of their own change.

  • Integrity & Transparency: We uphold accountability in everything we do.

  • Resilience & Innovation: We embrace adaptive solutions that fit local realities.

  • Collaboration & Partnership: We work hand in hand with communities, leaders, CSOs, and development partners.

Lets work Together

We work in areas where resources are scarce, infrastructure is limited, and the needs are great—but the potential for transformation is even greater. Every donation, every partnership, every helping hand brings us closer to a stronger, safer, and more hopeful Northern Uganda.

Who we are?

Access Centre Uganda is a non-profit, community-based organization headquartered in Patongo Town Council, in the heart of Agago District, Northern Uganda. Founded in response to the lingering social and economic scars of conflict, poverty, and inequality in the region, our organization is dedicated to empowering the most vulnerable populations—especially children, youth, and women—to unlock their full potential and lead lives of dignity, purpose, and peace.

Since our establishment, Access Centre Uganda has worked tirelessly to bridge the development gap in rural communities by creating safe spaces, delivering essential services, and nurturing the talents and resilience of those often left behind. Our approach is locally rooted, inclusive, and grounded in the belief that lasting change happens when communities are placed at the centre of their own transformation.

Our Impact

Over the years, Access Centre Uganda has:

  • Reached over 9,000 schoolgirls with menstrual hygiene kits.

  • Trained hundreds of youth and women in vocational and life skills.

  • Planted tens of thousands of trees with local farmers.

  • Hosted five successful editions of the Adoma Peace Cup with over 50 football teams participating.

  • Helped communities establish child protection committees and school health clubs.

  • Provided psychosocial support, mentorship, and leadership training to at-risk youth.

What we do?

We focus on six key areas of intervention, designed to respond to the real needs and aspirations of the communities we serve:

  • Youth Empowerment & Peacebuilding – We use sports, arts, dialogue, and training to reduce youth marginalization, prevent violence, and foster peaceful coexistence

  • Girls’ Education & Health – We tackle the barriers that keep girls out of school, such as menstruation, child marriage, and poverty, by providing reusable sanitary pads, mentorship, and advocacy for girls’ rights to education and safety.

  • Skills Training & Livelihoods – We provide hands-on vocational training (such as tailoring, carpentry, and agribusiness) to equip youth and women with marketable skills and tools for income generation and economic independence.

  • Climate Action & Agroecology – We work with farming communities to promote tree planting, Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), soil conservation, and nature-based solutions that protect the environment while improving food security.

  • Community Health & Hygiene – Through outreach, awareness, and partnerships with schools and health centres, we improve access to hygiene products, sexual and reproductive health education, and disease prevention practices.

  • Child Protection & Advocacy – We promote the rights and safety of children by working with parents, schools, local leaders, and police to create safe environments and ensure that vulnerable children are protected from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Where we work?

Our programs serve rural and hard-to-reach communities across Agago District, with expanding reach to other parts of Northern Uganda. These communities have historically faced high rates of poverty, youth unemployment, gender-based violence, and environmental degradation—but we see them as communities of possibility, rich with potential and resilience.

We need Your Help!

At Access Centre Uganda, we believe that lasting change begins in the community, but it thrives with your support. Every day, we walk alongside vulnerable youth, women, and children in Agago District, helping them overcome poverty, exclusion, and the scars of past conflict. But we cannot do it alone.

Your support helps us:

  • 📚 Keep girls in school by providing reusable sanitary pads and menstrual health education.

  • 🧵 Train youth in practical skills like tailoring, carpentry, and agribusiness—opening doors to employment and independence.

  • Promote peace and unity through sports tournaments like the Adoma Peace Cup, keeping young people engaged and inspired.

  • 🌿 Restore the environment by planting trees and promoting sustainable farming through community-led climate action.

  • 💧 Improve community health by delivering hygiene education, clean water initiatives, and health awareness campaigns.

  • 🛡️ Protect children’s rights and ensure their voices are heard and their futures protected.
